Customer reviews:Hard on the earsI have to disagree with the other reviewer here. I think this CD is plum awful. I first bought A Holly Jolly Christmas For Kids and found it to be wonderful. Then I got 100 Bible Songs for Kids which was OK. Then I got this one, and boy is it bad. I think the main problem is the recording; the kid's voices aren't too bad, but the recording is the worst of any CDs I've every listened to. I can hardly bear it myself. My kids, 3 and 5, who are music lovers, seem to be indifferent to this CD but are willing to listen to it (The love the others, especially A Holly Jolly Christmas For Kids, which kept my then 2 year old sitting quiet and motionless for hours at a time, sitting right next the radio.) What's more, whoever put this CD together has no convictions whatsoever. I mean, it has "God bless America", "Jesus loves the little children" and "When the Saints Go Marching In" in it, but also Jon Lennon's "Imagine", which says "Imagine there's no heaven No hell below us Being a Christian, I copy this CD onto a different disc without that song for my kids to listen to so that they don't end up the way Lennon did. Anyway, I recommend against buying this CD. There are better ones out there. Great introduction to our country's patriotic music! This album of patriotic American songs is a great introduction to our country's patriotic music for young children. It is sung by a very good kids' group. Unlike most kids' CDs, the performers on this CD are past the "squeaky voice" stage, and the instrumentals are actually good, with lots of brass, so it's not bad listening even for adults. Also, the arrangements are fun and engaging enough for a toddler - my two-year-old is actually happy to listen to it and doesn't request me to switch to one of his other favorite CDs. About half of the songs are traditional (God Bless America, Star-Spangled Banner, America the Beautiful, My Country 'Tis of Thee, When the Saints Go Marching In, You're a Grand Old Flag, Anchors Aweigh) and half are popular music that captures the American spirit (What a Wonderful World, Don't Stop Thinking about Tomorrow, This Land is Your Land, We Are Family). A wonderful bonus is a recital of the Pledge of Allegiance on the last track. I've bought four or five CDs of American music trying to find a good one to introduce my children to these important songs, and this one is my favorite so far. |
